The Essence Music Festival, is an annual music and cultural event that celebrates African American music and culture. It is held in New Orleans, Louisiana. The festival was founded in 1995 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Essence, a magazine aimed primarily at African American women.
Essence Fest has grown to become one of the largest events celebrating African American culture and music in the United States. The festival features performances by some of the biggest names in R&B, hip-hop, jazz, blues, and soul music, as well as seminars on various topics affecting the African American community, ranging from politics and health to personal development and cultural heritage.
